CLARITY hosts EU project on online virtual interaction
On 11th-12th Dec, CLARITY at DCU hosted a plenary meeting of the EU FP 7 project "REVERIE: Real and Virtual Engagement in Realistic Immersive Environments". 28 delegates from 8 different European member states traveled to Dublin to discuss progress and plan for the next phase of the project's workplan. REVERIE (http://www.reveriefp7.eu/) is a 3.5 year, €8M large scale integrating project, the objective of which is to introduce a new paradigm for how communication happens in social networks by adding to the realism of immersive 3D virtual worlds. To achieve this it will be necessary to break the existing tether to the mouse/keyboard as interaction mechanisms. To this end, a key focus in the project’s work plan is on developing/integrating multi‐modal and multi‐sensor signal acquisition tools for capturing, and subsequently representing and recreating both 3D environments and human activities therein. The REVERIE consortium brings together key academic and industry research groups along with end user social networks. Attending the Dublin meeting were representatives from STMicroelectronics (Italy), Queen Mary College (U.K.), CTVC Ltd (U.K.), Blitz Games Studios (U.K.), Alcatel-Lucent (Belgium), Disney Research (Switzerland), HHI-Fraunhofer (Germany), Philips (Netherlands), CWI (Ntherlands), Telecom ParisTech (France), Synelixis Ltd (Greece) and CERTH-ITI (Greece)
