The “Grids of Tomorrow- Powering Ireland the Smart Way” Seminar was held in the Crowne Plaza hotel, Northwood on Tuesday March 2nd. The seminar was broken into two separate sessions, session one which focussed on “Smart Grid Infrastructure” and session two which focussed on “The Growing Significance of the Customer in the Smart Grid”.
CLARITY featured heavily in the second session, senior researcher Dr Antonio Ruzzelli (pictured above) described the innovative energy research within CLARITY, while Dr Cian O’Mathúna discussed sectoral capabilities and scope for clustering to improve competitiveness. Gary Carrol, Chairman of Episensor, a CLARITY industry partner, gave an overview of how Episensor is exploiting smart grid opportunities.

After the seminar there was lots of interest in the CLARITY demo stand(pictured above) which featured the Real-Time Appliance Recognition system and the In Home Display system.
The event, organised by Sustainable Energy Ireland, in association with Eirgrid, Enterprise Ireland, ESB networks and IDA Ireland, was aimed at business leaders, R & D leaders, strategists, consultants, entrepreneurs and researchers in Ireland who wish to understand more about this emerging sector as both a means to reduce their own energy expense and to understand the opportunity for developing solutions to capitalise on emerging markets. The focus of the seminar was in the area of smart appliances, home area networks and other solutions that will engage consumers to deliver cost savings and the reduction of carbon emissions.
